Hardware requirements

Your SmartFlow Patient Workflow Software solutions team will take the time to understand your unique needs. We then apply our technical and practice management expertise to guide you to the appropriate iPad devices, displays, computers, and accessories.

The hardware that we recommend is tested to ensure SmartFlow software compatibility and optimal performance. For optimal performance of SmartFlow, ensure your system meets or exceeds the specifications in this document. These specifications and recommendations may differ depending on your system configuration and whether additional software or services are installed on your computers.

iPad
  • Apple 10.2″ iPad, 32GB, WiFi
  • 12.9" iPad Pro, 64GB, WiFi

Note: We recommend purchasing the most recent generation of iPad available. SmartFlow Patient Workflow Software will run on an older iPad, but the operating system of the iPad must be updated to the current version. If the iPad is so old that it cannot be updated to the most recent IOS version, then we do not recommend that it be used for SmartFlow.

iPad accessories
  • We strongly recommend an iPad case that will provide protection against damage.
  • AppleCare+ should be included with each iPad purchase.
  • A mobile device management (MDM) subscription is a convenient way to automatically keep the operating system and SmartFlow app up to date.

Commercial grade display
  • HD resolution or higher (1080+)
  • HDMI port
  • Connected to a computer using an HDMI cable
  • We sell LG commercial grade displays

Note: Some displays are equipped with Smart TV technology. The Smart TV browser and functionality are not compatible with SmartFlow.

Touch screen display
  • Infrared touch technology
  • HDMI port
  • Connected to a computer using an HDMI cable to enable the display
  • Connected to a computer using a USB cable to enable the touch technology
  • We sell Elo touchscreen displays

Display accessories
  • Wall mount
  • Surge protector

Computer for the commercial grade display
  • Intel Core M3 or higher processor
  • 4GB or higher memory
  • Solid-state hard drive
  • Windows 10 Home
  • SmartFlow runs in a browser; Google Chrome recommended
  • Wired network adapter, speed 1Gbps capable
  • Wireless network adapter, speed protocol 802.11ac preferred
  • HDMI output to connect to the commercial grade display
  • We sell the Intel Compute Stick with these specifications

Computer for the touch screen display
  • Intel Core i5 or higher processor
  • 8GB or higher memory
  • Solid-state hard drive
  • Windows 10 Home
  • SmartFlow runs in a browser; Google Chrome recommended
  • Wired network adapter, speed 1Gbps capable
  • Wireless network adapter, speed protocol 802.11ac preferred
  • HDMI output to connect to the touch screen
  • USB output to connect the computer to the touch screen for enabling the touch capability
  • We sell the Intel NUC with these specifications.

Keyboard and mouse
  • Each computer will require a wireless keyboard and mouse
  • We sell the Logitech wireless keyboard / mouse combo

The network at your clinic
 

Network speed

Internet speeds should be a minimum of 5Mbps download and 5Mbps upload for each workstation in the clinic.

 

Note about network speeds:

Network speed minimums are listed above, but the ability of each device to attain the minimum speeds will depend on the load placed on the network within the clinic by all applications.

Wireless network
  • Wireless network coverage should be fast and stable with no dead spots.
  • Each wireless device should run with an upload and download speed of 5Mbps.
  • Wireless protocol 802.11ac is recommended.

Network cabling

 Cabling should be rated category 5e (Cat5e), category 6 (Cat6) or higher that supports +1 Gbps wired network speeds. There should be no category 5 cable in the clinic.

Network switches

 Network switches should all support 1Gbps speeds or higher. There should be no 10/100 Mbps speed switches in the clinic.
