IDEXX UPDATE: A message from our CEO

Jay Mazelsky, President and CEO of IDEXX, thanks you and your veterinary healthcare team for the invaluable work you’re doing each day for clients and patients during this very challenging time. 

I want to thank you and your veterinary healthcare team for the invaluable work you’re doing each day for the New Zealand community, your clients and your patients both large and small during this very challenging episode. Our furred companions are always a source of great comfort, and even more so during these times. Like many working remotely, having my family’s Labradoodle, Blake, and cat, Shu-Shu, around lightens and brightens my days. I’m deeply grateful that veterinary professionals like you are there for all the Blakes and Shu-Shus of the world, and I want you to know that IDEXX is here for you. 

We are all living in a world that seemed unimaginable just weeks ago, adjusting our personal and professional lives to what has become a strange new normal. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a shared global experience unlike any other in history and has shaken some things we had all considered constants. I want you to know that IDEXX service and support are constants you can rely on. 

Our teams are  confident that we will continue to deliver the products, testing services and exceptional customer support you need for the duration of this crisis and beyond. We can do this because we’ve been investing in the capabilities that make reliability and excellence possible for decades. IDEXX has more than 80 reference laboratories networked together worldwide to ensure consistent high-quality service levels in good times and bad. We have developed world-class distribution and manufacturing operations to make sure that you always have access to the consumable tests and supplies you need when you need them. Our medical consultants, sales and support teams, that you know and trust, are here for you when you need them most thanks to our advanced remote working capabilities. 

We strive to be your trusted partner through these difficult times, and you can trust we will still be here for you when it’s time to help you recover and thrive once again. We understand that safety measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have decreased the number of routine patient visits to your practice while increasing the difficulty of your job and running your practice. In response, we have taken steps to provide you with essential diagnostics, enhanced clinical support and new business programmes during this period:

  • We’ve worked to deliver reference laboratory results in normal turnaround times, despite flight cancellations, transportation delays and other COVID-19 impacts, because we know you depend on them.
  • We’ve kept our metro courier routes intact and running daily, even when some customers don’t have specimens for daily collection.
  • We’ve worked around the clock with suppliers and logistics partners to ensure the delivery of critical IDEXX VetLab® consumables and IDEXX SNAP® rapid assay products so that you can continue to test patients in-clinic.
  • We've made our Diagnostic Practice Consultants, Pathologists, Internal Medicine Specialists and In-Field Technical Support professionals available to you for virtual or in-person visits, with your consent, to support your ongoing business needs, and we will  continue to do so.
  • And we’ve kept full staffing levels across our organisation to ensure that you have access to medical consultation, business advice, service and support.

We also developed the IDEXX SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) RealPCR™ Test, at first simply to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on pets globally. It then became clear in some markets that offering the test to veterinarians was the right thing to do when we saw clinical evidence that pets – especially cats and ferrets – can be at risk of infection in rare cases.  Please note that in line with regulatory consultation the IDEXX SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) test is not available in New Zealand.
